Winter hiking in Salzburg makes a great après-ski alternative, calorie burning activity to fill in some time or aid to the digestion after dinner – and it’s in season all winter. Every year, Obertauern transforms into a true winter fairytale for nature-lovers. Hiking in Obertauern can also include adventurous snowshoe expeditions from the Gnadenalm to the Südwiener hut and from the Hundsfeld cross-country ski trail to the World Cup cross-country ski trail. Winter hiking paths:

A winter hike from the Gnadenalm to the Südwiener hut.

Setting off from the front of the Gnadenalm, you follow the winter hiking trail from the parking area towards the back of the Gnadenalm. Then you come to the ascent to the Südwiener hut. And if you don’t fancy tackling the return journey on foot, you can always take a toboggan back down the slope. Toboggans can be hired on site.

Winter hiking on the Gnadenalm.

Obertauern’s Gnadenalm is one of the most impressive areas in which to enjoy a winter hike. You can hike through the snow-covered winter forests from the Gnadenalm carpark, past frozen mountain streams, and onward along this winter hiking path. The loop walk leads back to the carpark.

The Sonnhof winter hiking path

This beautiful hike sets out from the summit of the pass and leads on to the Obertauern sports centre. From there, you will head in the direction of the Zentralbahn and then on towards the Sonnlift 3. From there, it is only a short hike to Sonnhof.

The Seekar winter hiking path

From the summit of the pass in Obertauern, this route leads past the Obertauern sports centre and through the Hundsfeldmoor nature conservation area to Seekar, with convenient stops at the Seekarhaus, the Kringsalm and the Dikt’n Alm.
